My thesis is in partnership with AKKA Technologies, for whom i worked during my last year of engineering school in apprenticeship on Portage and until the beginning of my thesis.

Thesis

Study of the robot as a mean of expressing expertise in a distant collaborative task

Keywords: Human-Robot-Interraction, Telerobotics, Shared-Autonomy

Abstract: Human robot interraction has known a growing interest recently. It is due to two main factors; first physical/numerical interfaces and models of robot are robuster than ever, we can design command laws at torque level and improve safety constraints for robots close to those humans; second, ranging sensing system such as stereo-cameras or Lidars are accurater year to years, not only in getting depth information but also in recognizing elements in the vision area thanks to deep-learning techniques (human skelettons, 3D shapes of known objects …). However it is still challenging to understand and anticipate human actions in given expertise contexts, due to impredictability and variability of human motions. Trained humans are still better at anticipating their pairs next actions and manipulate objects in a given manner.

Medical application such as classical surgery operations, with one surgeon, operative assistants and scrub nurses around the operated patient embed all those spatial static and dynamical constraint for HRI. My goal is to see in this context if it is possible to teleoperate a robotic arm (preferrably) redundant such as the Franka Emika Panda (currently in use for auctus experimentations); and if so how to distribute autonomy between the teleoperative nurse and the arm/sensing system, for tasks suchs as grasping operating tools on table, teleoperated physical-handover or removing objects of operating area.

AKKA

Akka Technologies is an engineering and technology consulting group. The group is positioned in all industrial and tertiary sectors of activity, namely aeronautics, automotive, energy, railways, defense, space, information systems and telecommunications. In 2019-2022, we have established a recurrent collaboration with AKKA to transfer our know-how on collaborative robotics design. Two partnerships have been established. The first one is a bilateral contract (Portage) which allowed the … [Read More]
